Gyproque (Plans & Apologies Frankie Panky Mix)
The P&A chaps originally remixed this and then promptly had their studio broken into and the stuff nicked. credit to them for re-doing it from scratch and for all having a go at the drums apparently. The People's Palace have done me a fantastic video to go along with it - right here
Black Eyes #3 (Tigermilk Finally Mix)
Weirdly this remix seems to change the chords of the song completely but still manages to work with the original vocal melody so who's complaining?
Nineteen Seventy Three (Johnny Domino Lean Against The Machine Mix)
At one point in the distant past we had a vague plan to release a split single with Johnny Domino where they would cover my track Nineteen Seventy Three and I would do a version of their song Solid Ground. Alas it never happened (probably for the best as I'm sure we don't have THAT much room beneath our beds for unsold copies) but they did record several versions of the backing track which, glued together form the basis of this remix
How I Wish I Was Sophia Loren (Shortwave Dahlia Second Skin Mix)
in a moment I will ask you to close your eyes and imagine i'm someone different i do it all of the time someone younger someone taller someone you like and if it makes a difference keep them closed until i tell you otherwise i hate this skin that holds me in i need my knots to be untied and i hope this skin holds more within than it ever advertised because you wouldn't ever buy it you wouldn't ever buy it if you needed skin more than anything and i needed skin like it was everything in a moment i will ask you to adopt a child and treat him like your very own i do it all of the time be his father be his mother won't you be mine and if you light things up that's just because you're a little ray of sunshine i hate this skin that holds me in i need my knots to be untied and i hope this skin holds more within than it ever advertised because you wouldn't ever buy it you wouldn't ever buy it if you needed skin more than anything and i needed skin like it was everything in a moment i will ask you to close your eyes
Been playing this one live for a few years and it was recorded for the last album but never quite sounded as good as I thought it could. Luckily I kept the multitracks and Jack did a fantastic job of turning into something special. Julian features on 2nd guitar.
Beatings Of My Heart (Lardpony Mix)
This was the first remix to be done for the project and as such I'm sure Tom has waited long enough to believe that it would never see the light of day. He wrong!
Why Are You #2 (cARDbOaRD_DEaD_bOY Frankie Machine Is People Mix)
Mr CDB has a reputation round these parts as being a noise terrorist in extremis, which is sort of why I was keen to get him involved as I wanted at least one remix to be an absolute somic assault bearing little resemblance to the original. He pinned this one down and raped it in the arse big style. Yet there are some really beautiful bits in there too (and how often can you say THAT about arse-rape?)
54:07 (The Spunk Bubbles Sticky Ricky Mix)
As the title suggests - a remix of 54th & 3rd and 1:07 which doesn't really sound like either and all the better for it.
I Invented The Walkwoman (Human A Mix)
One of the most bleepy originals anyway, I wasn't sure how this one would turn out but Andy asked to do this track, so who am I to stand in the way? He actually stripped it back and made it less bleepy so maybe that makes it an unmix? I dunno, but I say it's good.
My Hair Hell
i once grew my fringe it was kind of a statement and i cared for the sick until i ended up the patient it's short back and sides now and i hang around the station looking out for anyone to give me medication cut me down vary my length cut me down sap my strength cut me so short help me to see through my fringe and the mess that i've left behind me i once dyed it black but it never really took i was teaching little children all the small print in my book i dried it upside down one day i did it for a bet i really though that i was billy idol's fantasy made flesh cut me down vary my length cut me down sap my strength cut me so short help me to see through my fringe and the mess that i've left behind me i found a streak of grey it was right above my ear is this my illness prematurely ageing lifetimes in one year and you should see me in the mornings when it's pressed flat to my head and there's no queue for the bathroom and i'm only making half the bed cut me down vary my length cut me down sap my strength cut me so short help me to see through my fringe and the mess that i've left behind me
another really old song that i occasionally played live when i did solo gigs, but never embellished further than that. in actual fact it should be called my hair hell (journey to the back of my head). there is some miles davis in the remix i believe.
